Gym with Spock again. I think I've nearly convinced her to join. We'll see. It was quite empty and - finally - the air-conditioning is fixed. Thank the bleedin' Lord.

15 x mins cross-trainer
2 x mile run (20 mins 46 secs. I am going to break 20 mins within the next week if it kills me)
I wonder if it's because I have 57 year old lungs that I breathe so heavily when I run.
30 x mins weights
20 x mins powerplate

(I read something on the - I think it was Nike - website, about running 10k races. It was an article for beginners and I can't remember it verbatim but it was something along the lines of 'most new or slower runners should expect to finish in around 45 - 55 minutes'. I know I should just ignore things like that, but I can't help but feel a little deflated when I read them as that still feels completely unachievable at the moment. I mean, I don't even care about being good. But I would at least like to be average one day. Still, Gaz and I now have not one but FOUR races booked in for the next few months. The Littlehampton 10k in September, Nike Run London 10k in Hyde Park in October and the Run Hove 5 miler and the Brooks Brighton 10k in November. Plus the torturous cactus infested mountain trail run or whatever it is that I might be doing in Texas. Nice.

G rang this morning to report his best 5k time to date last night (we must have just missed each other on the beach) - 22 mins exactly. He is definitely starting to take it really seriously which is amusing after his months of warning me not to become 'obsessed'. He used to be a serious athlete in his teens but girls and booze took their toll. So now he's making up for lost time.

So glad it's a bit cooler now. Lovely sunset tonight and light wind. Did same old route to Macca's house but not as far in the other direction. I am knackered today. I've had no more than five hours sleep any night this week, and only two hours on Wednesday. It all catches up with me on a Friday night - I feel done in.

2.9253 miles according to gmaps.
31 minutes.

Hmmmm. This doesn't ring true at all. That's a 10.36 min mile pace. I think the mapping must be inaccurate because I don't believe I did it that fast. Not that it's fast. But I'm positive I wasn't running at that speed. I did pick up the pace at intervals throughout the run, and then slow back down for a bit, but even so. I think this must be wrong.

I really want one of those things; a Garmin.

So the next day now and Sarah is not too achey and gagging to become a fully paid-up member. Hoorah! I'll believe it when I see it though.

Was very pushed for time tonight as my train broke down on the way home. Unbelievably, the doors wouldn't close so we were stranded at Hassocks station for ages.

Only managed the following:

15 x mins crosstrainer
20 x mins treadmill
15 x mins powerplate
20 x mins weights

Spock came to the gym tonight as my guest. It was fun. Didn't get as much done but it didn't matter. I wish she would join but I know she won't. It's taken me nearly a year to get her just to come once.

10 x minutes crosstrainer
2 x mile run - 21 mins 29 secs
20 mins powerplate
30 mins weights
some other bits and pieces

Didn't do anything last night as Matthew, Gaz and I went out for dinner in London.

Monday night couldn't get a treadmill for love nor money. It was rammed to the rafters in there for some reason.

20 x mins crosstrainer
25 x mins cardio wave (god, this thing is really hard)
30 x mins powerplate
20 x mins weights

The so-called 'cool spell' lasted one day then. It's boiling again today.

Gym was empty which was nice. I guess most people don't spend their precious summer Sunday afternoons sweating in a 100 degree basement. Don't blame them.

20 x mins crosstrainer
2 x mile run (21 mins 47 secs)
30 x mins powerplate
5 x mins cardio wave
