Had a day off today. Did another 5k yesterday, so that's five runs this week which is pretty good.
Been looking at various marathon training schedules. Think I am going to go with the Hal Higdon Novice Programme, which has been recommended to me by a couple of people. I'm still going to use the other book I have as it has loads of other relevant stuff in, but the HH programme is 18 weeks rather than 16 and finishes with an 18 mile run and a 20 mile run, rather than two 18s. I think I'll feel more confident on the day, if I know that I've actually run 20 in training.
Of course, I'm writing all that without really thinking about what it actually means. It means, of course, that at some point before I line up on the starting line, I am going to have to go out and run twenty miles. I can't even fathom that kind of distance. It seems to me to be an absolute impossibility that I could or would ever be able to do that. I look at it on paper, and see how it all builds up very gradually, but it still looks terrifying. I know that I just have to trust the training programme, and not look further than the next run. All I have to do is concentrate on the next run.
